Its a peculiar device, rather than traveling physically to the past, this device allows the user to send their mind back and effectively possess the bodies of others. The only question now is where to go, and as who? Back to the custody hearing that decided your home? The moment of first contact with an alien race? The workplace accident that took your friend? or something else entirely. Or perhaps each in turn, you have plenty of time after all.
